Sustainability and energy efficiency have become a key factor in all home appliances, and particularly those perceived to be heavy users of electricity such as washing machines and dishwashers. In part this is driving more intelligence into systems, to better sense and control water and detergent usage, but also to connect with the outside world for remote (smartphone app) control. In addition, factors such as low acoustic noise are increasingly having an impact. This is leading to greater use of BLDC motors, which can also improve life-expectancy and reduce maintenance.
